Having worked in the forest for over 38 years as a second generation logger, I decided, even though I had no idea how to switch on a computer, to start a facebook page to share my passion for forestry. I really feel quite proud of myself that I can almost type now with two fingers!
I am looking to keep you up to date with the latest news from the manufacturers and from the woods, share some great pictures and give away some great prizes.

The Interforst show in Munich was a huge success, with over 50,000 visitors from 72 countries attending and there was 450 exhibitors spread over 40,000 m3. The weather was fantastic for the 5 days and with so much to see and do, it made it a brilliant experience, I am already planning my next visit in 2118.
Konrad Forsttechnik were displaying their new Woody Harvesting Head at Interforst, it can be used as a conventional felling head or in conjunction with the Mounty Skyline. They are hoping to be at the APF in September.
Westtech had a good range of their woodcrackers on display at Interforst. They have some very clever equipment for removing overhead branches on railway lines etc. They will also be exhibiting at the APF in September
Ponsse Deutschland - Wahlers Forsttechnik GmbH had a Scorpion King, Ergo, Wisent and a Buffalo Alpine at Interforst. The new Forwarder cranes have the pipes down the inside of the dipper boom giving better protection in thinnings.
Wolfgang Lichtenschopf, myself and Henry Gunn, who won the prize of an "all Expenses paid" trip to the Interforst show. The prize was kindly donated by Neuson Ecotec Gmbh in our Christmas competition last December. After the show we all went for a great meal, washed down by a few litres of excellent Bavarian Beer. Happy days!
We recently found out that Henry, who works as a Forwarder Operator for Joe Court Forestry, actually saw the job advertised on our facebook page, forestmachineoperatorjobs, applied for it and got it. Sorry Joe!
Call in and see Neuson Ecotec at the APF.
In the UK the roundwood markets are looking to stay strong in the coming months with logs still averaging around £45.45/m3 at roadside. In Europe and Scandinavia its a little slower but with China importing over 1,000,000 tonnes of sawlogs and pulp a month it should help the markets in the long term.
